3/20-3/31 update

I'm allowing myself twenty minutes to catch up on here. I haven't written a real update since this one. March 20th. Heh. I don't know why I don't say screw it all and I'll start from the beginning, but it bugs me.

So, I've got my planner out and let's see...

3/20: The board meeting and sandwich brigade went ok, not as bad as that one.

3/21: Grim Reaper Day at school about all the people who die in drunk driving accidents. Taped the skating World Championships for Mom.

3/22: Due date for digital media opacity project. I got a 93. I think I deserved lower, but I deserved higher than a 93 for my quilt project. :( Oh well. I also finished in my editorial on Lord of the Rings vs Harry Potter, which I thought turned out pretty well. Had an appointment with Marsha.

3/23: We took a 7 AM flight to Utah. Fortunately we didn't miss musical theater. We got there a little after lunch to a DISASTER (there was a thief). I'm going to write an unsentletter to the thief, I think, so I'll link that when I do. We went out for dinner with Kristin and Steve, who are so nice. They're the ones with the son on the US Alpine Team. Bryon. And their other son Evan is really cool too.

3/24: We skiied Deer Valley, wohoo! Lots of powder. We planned the whole day around watching the Oscars, which aired at 6:00 Utah time. Grrr... how could LOTR only win 4? At least it got a lot of nominations. Hmph. And how the HELL was "Shrek" nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay but not "Harry Potter"? Weird. Maggie and Ken came super-late that night.

3/25: Skiing. I think this was the day I fell. Lauren, Alexa, Kelsey, and I were skiing together, and I was skiing clean-up (last), and went off a tiny jump by accident and went FLYING... of course, right under the lift, and of course, it was hot, so I had unzipped my jacket, and I got my fleece absolutely SOPPED. My ribs hurt so badly. Laughing was the worst! Chris O. came for dinner. He's the best. We gave Alexa her birthday present, which was the DVDs of "Save the Last Dance" and "Can't Hardly Wait," and watched them both. STLD looks like it has really good extras, which I want to watch. And speaking of presents, I FINALLY got Kelsey and Alexa their Chanukah ones once when we were cruising Main Street. I bought Alexa a pair of snowflake earrings, and I got Kelsey some of that stationery which you scratch on and it writes multicolored or something, with a wizard theme. They both picked them out, so that was cool.

3/26: More skiing. All Deer Valley. I did some math with Maggie. I had a bunch of global reading to do, which I did on the plane, go me. I read "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", for Carley, and was supposed to read "A Tale of Two Cities" but I didn't because it was boring as all hell. I also read "The White Mercedes," because it's by Philip Pullman. It was, well, interesting. I didn't particularly enjoy it -- it wasn't plausible enough -- but the ending definitely haunted me.

3/27: Skiing. We had our Passover seder, which is always fun, but I decided I much, much prefer it at home. I love everything about Passover. I love the (greatly abridged) service that Dad puts together, the FOOD (matzah-ball soup, anyone?), hunting for the afikomen (which I found this year, I got $2, wohoo!), singing "Dayeinu" while Dad plays his guitar. But it wasn't the same this year. I know it was a lot more relaxed for Mom, so we'll probably do it again, but I definitely prefer it at home.

3/28: More skiing. Maggie and Ken left early in the morning. They were actually pretty fun, except that Maggie really can't ski. She was so slow, it drove us crazy!!! Kelsey and I spent forty-five minutes with her once getting down a cattrack (super-flat, easy, not steep run). Ken was a better skiier, more at the blue level. Anyway it was Chris O.'s birthday. Mom, Lauren, Kelsey, and I spent the afternoon in the outlets, which we haven't done in a while. Four hours. We were TRASHED. Banana Republic, Gap, Tommy Hilfiger, Liz Claiborne, Jockey... and everything was on SALE. It was awesome. I mean, I got this really nice purple B.R. shirt for $3.99! So we all got a bunch of cheap sweaters and turtlenecks for next year, and I got a cool pair of green pants, and a whole bunch of skirts, and a cute navy dress, and tons of underwear, and black sandals, and other stuff. We had to get a suitcase to fit everything. Heh. It was great. I love cheap stuff. I also got a new ski coat. It's black with white stripes. I like it, and my old one really fit badly, but I kind of wanted a colored one (my old one was blue). Oh well.

3/29: We tried SO HARD to go see LOTR so we could see the preview, but it was only playing in Salt Lake City, and we couldn't get there. :( So we skiied. Dr. A (a dermatologist) skiied with us a little, with her son and her son's friend, who had a MAJOR crush on Lex, it was so cute. :) Then Lex, Kels, and the two guys went tubing, I was invited but I didn't think it would be too much fun, seeing as they're way younger. Then we had dinner with Chris and his mom, which was fun.

3/30: More skiing. I think my skiing has improved a lot. My boots were better, for one thing (they hurt everywhere but where they hurt last time! I'm more aggressive, and do the moguls a lot more, and I actually enjoy them. I couldn't do them on the last trip because my boots hurt so bad. Dena came for dinner.

3/31: Happy birthday to Amy from CTY 2000. We went back to Utah on an 11:05 UT time flight, except we had to get up super-early because we had to lock everything up and change the sheets and unload the dishwasher and all that shit. The best part, though, was getting home and seeing that beautiful amazon.com package! "Cold Fire" by Tamora Pierce came!! It was pretty good. Bennat is one of T.P.'s more interesting characters because he's less one-dimensional. He's got this whole history and this whole complicated persunality. Funky.

Alrighy, that's enough for now. I'm up to April. That's good, right? :)

Love,

Jessica
